BED 203: Evaluation and Measurement in Education
Objective:
The course aims to:
(b) Explain the meaning and distinction of testing, measurement and evaluation of education.
(c) Explain the roles and objectives in evaluation of curricula.
(d) Identify the errors in measurement and explain with illustration the characteristics of a good test and a measuring device.
(e) Demonstrate the validity and reliability of a test.
(f) Demonstrate knowledge of various tools and techniques of evaluation and construct different types of tests.
(g) Explain the statistical consepts and their uses in educational mesurement.

Course Description:
4. The Concept of Measurement and Evaluation: Errors of measurements, characteristics of a good test- validity and reliability, objectivity & standardization, causes of low validity reliability of a test. Types of validity: face, content, construct, predictive and concurrent, determining, reliability of a test. test-retest, parallel form, split- half and rational equivalence (Kuder-Richardson’s formula).
5. Standardization of Test: Operational definition and objectives of the new test items. try-out, Item analysis- difficulty index, discrimination index, internal consistency, finalizing test form validity &reliability of items fixing norm and developing scoring key.
6. Tools and Techniques of Evaluation: Classification of Test. Achievement test & its classification: written test, oral test. The essay test: Advantages and disadvantages of essay type question, improvement of essay type questions. The objective to items classification, advantages & disadvantage, guidelines for constructing better objective test items. Development of tests-objectives short essay, essay record, cumulative record, sociometic technique. Interview, questionnaire, inventories, attitude scale, projective. Projective techniques. Intelligence tests.
7. Descriptive Statistics: Scales of measurement: normal, ordinal, interval and ratio. Meanings of statistics. The frequency distribution, graphic representation: histogram, frequency, polygon. Frequency curve. Measure of central tendency. Measure of variability Measure of relationship. The normal probability curves an deviation form normality –Skewness, Kurtosis.
8. Interpretation of Test Results: Rank order, percentiles, PR. Derived scores: Z-score, the standard score and T- score. How to assign grads.

BED 204: Practical Teaching: Evaluation of a short report on practical teaching II 6 credits
The candidate will be required to submit a short report on the basis of practical teaching that he/she has experienced while being attached with an educational institute in this semester.
