Automation refers to any mechanism that operates independently. The term comes from the Greek words “Auto” (self) and “Matos” (moving). Compared to manual systems, automation offers superior precision, power, and speed.  As technology advanced, all industrial processing systems, factories, machinery, test facilities, and so on transitioned from mechanization to automation. To run manual machinery in a mechanization system, human interaction is required. The requirement for high accuracy, quality, precision, and performance in industrial processes has encouraged the development of novel and efficient control systems. Automation is a step beyond mechanization in which high control capability devices are used to optimize manufacturing or production processes.
