The Automotive Transmission System course provides a comprehensive overview of the design, operation, and maintenance of transmission systems used in modern vehicles. It begins with an introduction to the powertrain and the role of transmission in transferring power from the engine to the wheels, covering both manual and automatic systems. Key topics include the working principles and components of manual transmissions, such as gear trains, shafts, and clutches, as well as automatic systems like torque converters, planetary gearsets, and dual-clutch technologies. The course also explores the mechanics of Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs) and their integration in hybrid and electric vehicles. Advanced transmission technologies, including shift-by-wire systems and electronic control units (ECUs), are discussed alongside emerging trends like lightweight materials and autonomous vehicle applications. Practical sessions involve hands-on experience with gearbox disassembly, diagnostics, and maintenance, ensuring a solid technical foundation. Students will also gain familiarity with tools like OBD-II scanners for troubleshooting. The program concludes with a capstone project, where participants apply their knowledge to diagnose, repair, or simulate a transmission system, preparing them for real-world challenges in the automotive industry.
